Race and ethnicity are socially constructed identities that vary across time, space, situation, and perception. Besides this fact, Race and Racism is one of the major issues in human societies even if the country is culturally diversified, like Canada. Race refers to a person’s physical appearance such as skin color, eye color, hair color, bone/jaw structure and other defining characteristics and Ethnicity relates to cultural factors such as nationality, culture, ancestry, language, religion and beliefs.

The ethnic differences are learned and not inherited in a human, biologically. Even though Canada is culturally and ethnically diversified, racial riffling and racial discrimination affects people’s lives as stereotyping creates an effect of essentialist and racial discrimination leads to inequality in social institutions. Racial discrimination is one of the main social problems that exists in human societies and also leads to other issues such as Ethnocentrism and Essentialist.

Judging a person’s character/ nature, based on their race and ethnic attributes is one of the common mistakes people make instinctively. The belief that the white skin color or other physical attributes are inherently superior than black or people of color, creates a tension between different racial groups and people gets affected by the racist behavior of one person or group. In Canada, Discrimination continues to happen because it nurtures power and esteem for the people who wants them to feel superior than others.

Nelson and Floras, in their book “Social problems in Canada” mentions that, ” people discriminate, whether consciously or unconsciously, because it is in their best interest to do so (217)”. Showcasing power and capital for satisfying own interests makes people do scrimmaging actions at various levels of social institutions, which can hurt people’s feeling and affect them mentally and physically. For example, an act of discrimination in a school to a brown or black student, studying in a typical white peer student groups can lead him/her to mental depression and under estimating his/her talent and abilities for future.

Therefore, Racism can start from a little bullying in the school or not promoting a person at the workplace due to variant racial background can affect one’s life adversely. No doubt, such acts are controlled by strict rules and regulations and situations are better than before in Canadian societies, but its not completely diminished. Canada is a multicultural society with a large number of immigrants coming from all over the world. They come in search of better life, superior jobs, better education.

Like any other “Canadian”, they work hard to succeed and to settle their families with them in the country. Although health systems are same for everyone, all countrymen holds the right to freedom of speech and expression like any other foreigner there are certain problems within the society which impacts the performances of the individual. Racial profiling, is defined by “any actions undertaken for reasons of safety , security or public protection that relies on stereotypes about race, color, ethnicity, ancestors, religionists 11)”.

Many case studies justifies the issue of racial profiling by police in the Canadian Society where police either “under-police” minority community related victims are involved or “over-police” where members of minority communities are perpetrators of crime. Ammo Buckles shooting case in 2005, for example, was a case of under-policing of the Black community in Toronto, where critics suggests that police did not take the case seriously as it was a black and black violence as they would if white people have been involved(Statewide and Ladies 212).

Therefore, racial profiling has proved to be an issue in the Canadian police system which directly affects the minority groups and individuals and their belief of “safety’ in the country. In almost every society, racism works under the unconscious level, where people are axially discriminated, stereotyped and profiled. Canada is also one of them, although the levels of all these problems are not as high due to the diversity of ethnic groups in social institutions, work places and tolerance in citizens of the country.
