Family, religion and education are the first three social institutions that a person has to deal with. The first video that was watched was Family & Social Changes. This video was about how the family live has changed over the years. Families were looked at as being a mother and father and children. The father was the one that would work while mother stayed home and did the household chores. The kids were well behaved and helped as they were asked to. If you were a woman who had a child without being married you were looked at as living in sin just as if you were a man and woman living gather but not being married.

There were not many divorces either. Now days, you see more and more people living together but not married. Divorce is something that unfortunately is a common thing for people to do. Women are not so eager to have children instead they are working and supporting themselves. Women are also working more and being the sole or contributing bread winner of the family. The next video that was watched was Nine Years After 9/1 1. In this video they talked about how society looks at different religions. They talk about how we have not grown much as a society when it comes to this particular topic.

Even though it has been nine years our society still looks at different religions just as that different. Everyone is reluctant to except someone due to their differences. One of the pastors in the video was putting the blame on themselves for not allowing and teaching his followers to accept others even if they believe different. The last video that was watched was Lessons from the Real World: Social Issues and Student Involvement. This video was about the different ways that children are learning.

In the beginning it talked about how children are expect to be taught something and memorize it then give the information back to the instructor. It goes on to show how children who actually get to get out and experience the information then they are learning better. It is more off hands on way of learning. It also got the children to interact with the other children and not just read about how something work. They are able to learn and see what goes on. Each institution influences everyone differently. For me I am influence by my family more than anything.

My family is what look at as to how am supposed to behave and relate to society. My mother was the one who taught me how to act for an early age so that knew what was acceptable and what was not. Religion is not really something that has influence me as much as I thought it had. After doing my own research on different religions I am able to look at the different religions that are out there and have an open mind. Again have to credit my mom here because she helped me to understand that just because we are Catholic does not mean that everyone out there is. The last institution that was discussed in this paper was education.
